I am a student and I have a project to detail the active ingredients in Hemorrhoids (Piles?) medicine. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Actually there are different ingredients in such preparations, whether here in the US or in Canada……..for example, In Canada, there preparations use a yeast extract to reduce the hemorrhoids, in the US that extract is used in skin creams for wrinkles…
some of the other ingredients used would be Shark oil, phenylephrine, cortisone, hydrocortisone, pramoxine, witch hazel, etc…..
NOTE: None of these CURE hemorrhoids. Their effect is to constrict the blood vessels, thereby shrinking the hemorrhoid.

I dont think there is a “cure”, You can use medicine with anti inflamitories, numbing cream or foams, but these just give relief from the uncomfort, pain and itching, they are not a cure. There is surgery but the recovery time is lengthy and I have never heard anyone who has had the surgery recommend it to others.

I know of the Butcher’s broom – herbal plant (Ruscus aculeatus’ extract is believed to be effective in improving the tone of the veins as well as its integrity, making the swollen tissue shrink faster). There are other herbal plants too which believed to be effective, but I guess only for temporary relief.

the main ingredient in those products is Witch Hazel, it doesn’t CURE hemorrohoids it eases the pain.
Hemorrhoids are best cure with Undiluted Essential oil of Lavender applied to the distressed skin area.

A.I(Active ingredient) is the amount of salt or technical present in a medicine to cure the particular disease.eg in 500mg paracetamol .500mg paracetamol salt should be present along with other ingredient

Its hard to spell that isnt it. I dont know what the cure is but for many trying to find one is nothing short of a pain in the arrse.
